The UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training is pleased to invite applicants to apply for Round 2 of the SUSTAIN CDT recruitment cycle, for entry in October 2026.
SUSTAIN is a collaboration between the Universities of Lincoln, Aberdeen, Queen’s Belfast and Strathclyde, and focuses on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to sustainable agri-food.
The SUSTAIN Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) empowers the next generation of AI scientists to invent, develop, and deploy technologies, co-created with growers and agri-food practitioners.

Scholarship eligibility requirements:
To be considered for the SUSTAIN Scholarships UKRI AI Centre for Doctoral Training, you must:
- hold a minimum first class or 2:1 Bachelor’s degree or MSc with merit in a relevant subject area.
- meet the English-Language proficiency requirements. Non-native English speakers must hold a minimum qualification equivalent to IELTs 6.5. A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an English-speaking University will also be considered.
- apply for a 4-year PhD programme under the supervision of a team led by one of the four partner universities.
- ready to focus on solving real-world business and technical challenges through innovative research
