SCHOLARSHIP: University of York UK, International Scholarship for Postgraduate Research (Ph.D) Students

The University of York is now accepting applications for the AHRC Doctoral Landscape Awards in the Arts and Humanities for the 2026/27 academic year. Six scholarships are available to support outstanding PhD candidates whose research aligns with the AHRC remit.

Applicants must have an offer to begin a PhD in a relevant department at the University of York in September 2026. They should have a first-class undergraduate degree and a Distinction at Master’s level or equivalent experience.

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the following units:
    • Centre for Eighteenth Century Studies
    • Centre for Medieval Studies
    • Centre for Renaissance and Early Modern Studies
    • Department of Archaeology
    • Department of English and Related Literature
    • Department of History
    • Department of History of Art
    • Department of Language and Linguistic Science
    • Department of Philosophy
    • School of Arts and Creative Technologies
    • York School of Architecture
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, applicants must:
    • Hold an offer for a PhD programme in a relevant department, or have at least one supervisor based in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
    • Begin their PhD studies in September 2026 (deferrals not permitted).
    • Have a first-class undergraduate degree and a Distinction in a relevant Master’s degree, or equivalent achievements in research, practice, or the creative/heritage sectors.
  • Reside in the UK for the duration of the programme and not pursue a distance learning route.
  • Not have already started their doctoral study.
  • International students should note that only two awards are available for non-UK students, and they must fund the difference between Home and International fees.
