The Southern Illinois University Scholarship is a graduate assistantship (Master’s or PhD) opportunity for international students to study and research in the USA.
The Spatial Wildlife Ecology Lab at Southern Illinois University is seeking an outstanding MS
or PhD student beginning Fall 2025. The student’s project will focus on developing, field testing and implementing, and comparing several approaches to assess white-tailed deer density in different landscapes across Illinois.

Scholarship eligibility requirements:
To be considered for the Southern Illinois University Scholarship 2025, you must:
- Have a BSc or MS (for PhD applicants) in Ecology, Wildlife Ecology, or Biology, or a closely related field,
with a strong academic record. - Excellent quantitative skills. Experience in R and ArcGIS/Pro software.
- Previous experience with camera traps data, road surveys, or operating UAVs is desirable.
- Knowledge regarding spatial ecology.
- Ability to perform fieldwork.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills including a demonstrated ability or potential to publish in peer-reviewed journals.
- Motivated with an excellent work ethic.
