The Imperial College London is pleased to offer a number of Shawki Saad Scholarship to support sub-Saharan African students to study in any of its areas of research. 

The Shawki Saad Scholarship is a fully funded programme to support students ordinarily resident in Sub-Saharan Africa. The programme is funded by a generous endowed gift from the late Professor Shawki Saad, with one scholarship awarded each year between 2023-2026.

Imperial College London (Imperial) is a public research university in London, England. Its history began with Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, who envisioned a cultural area in South Kensington that included museums, colleges, and the Royal Albert Hall. In 1907, these colleges – the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City and Guilds of London Institute – merged to form the Imperial College of Science and Technology.

Scholarship eligibility requirements:

To be considered for the Imperial College London Shawki Saad Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a sub-Saharan African student
  • Hold a Bachelors degree
  • Be applying to study a PhD at the Imperial College London
  • Meet the requirements for a PhD degree at the college

To successfully submit an application for the scholarship, interested and qualified applicants should follow the steps outlined below;

  • Apply through the institution’s online application portal.
  • Online applications should only be submitted after a potential academic supervisor has expressed sufficient interest in your application.  
  • You shall be nominated for funding by your potential PhD supervisors by the same deadline.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • The programme will fully cover the cost of overseas tuition fees for 3 years,
  • Beneficiaries will also receive a maintenance stipend of £22,000 for for 3.5 years
  • The travel costs (flight and visa) for the successful applicant will also be covered.
