The Wilson Center invites academics, professionals, reporters and government intellectuals to participate in its flagship global fellowship program. Fellows undertake research and write in their fields of concern while interacting with policy makers in Washington, D.C. and Wilson Center employees and other academics in residence.

The Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars or Wilson Center is a Washington, D.C.–based think tank dedicated to research and policy discussions on global issues. Established by an act of Congress in 1968, it serves as both a presidential memorial to Woodrow Wilson and a part of the Smithsonian Institution.

  • Program Period: Fellows are expected to be in residence for the entire U.S. academic year (early September through May). Occasionally, fellowships are awarded for shorter periods, with a minimum of four months.

Scholarship eligibility requirements:

To be eligible for Woodrow Wilson Center Fellowship, you must be/ have:

  • Required Language: English.
  • Eligible Countries: All world countries
  • Men and women with outstanding capabilities and experience from a wide variety of backgrounds (including academia, business, government, journalism, law, and other professions).
  • Citizens or permanent residents from any country (applicants from countries outside the United States must hold a valid passport and be able to obtain a J-1 visa even if they are currently in the United States).
  • Academic candidates holding a Ph.D. or J.D. (degree must be received by the application deadline of October 1).
  • Academic candidates demonstrating scholarly achievement by publications beyond their doctoral dissertations.
  • Practitioners or policymakers with an equivalent level of professional achievement.
  • English proficiency as the Center is designed to encourage the exchange of ideas among its fellows.

Scholarship Benefits:

Woodrow Wilson Center Fellowship provides the recipient with the following benefits:

The Center offers a stipend of $90,000 for a nine-month fellowship. Fellows are responsible for their own health insurance and travel expenses.
