The University of Edinburgh (Scots: University of Edinburgh, Scottish Gaelic: Oilthigh Dhùn Èideann; abbreviated as Edin. in post-nominals) is a public research university based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Founded by the town council under the authority of a royal charter from King James VI in 1582 and officially opened in 1583, it is one of Scotland’s four ancient universities and the sixth-oldest university in continuous operation in the English-speaking world. The university played a crucial role in Edinburgh becoming a leading intellectual centre during the Scottish Enlightenment and contributed to the city being nicknamed the “Athens of the North”.

Scholarship eligibility requirements:

To be considered for the University of Edinburgh Online Scholarship, you must:

  • Be a citizen from a developing country
  • Be accepted into one of the eligible Human Medical postgraduate programmes offered by the University in the 2025-2026 academic session.
  • Be committed to continue to work in countries that will benefit most from their furthered medical education. 
  • Priority will be given to those who have not had the opportunity to study at Masters level previously.

Scholarship Benefits:

  • The scholarship will cover full tuition fees for the duration of the programme of study.
  • For onsite programmes, duration is one year
  • For online programmes, duration is 2 or 3 years
